moladi Behuisings sisteem uitgestal - World Design Capital 2014

moladi Behuisings sisteem uitgestal - World Design Capital 2014 - Kaapstad

There is an ongoing and urgent need to create human settlements that allow its residents to access social and economic opportunities close to where they live. Such settlements are environmentally, economically and socially sustainable. They support people’s livelihoods through diverse opportunities and also put less pressure on the environment. Developments of this nature  build communities and provide environments of learning, safety and stability through good planning and design principles.

Concrete is making a significant contribution to the development of these settlements and this seminar provides an opportunity for all delegates to learn from industry experts of concrete’s role in this strategic area of  the built environment.

Hennie Botes is one of those individuals who has challenged the traditional brick and mortar method of construction by developing moladi, a reusable plastic mould. The design and simplicity of use has been recognised by Design Indaba - Africa is Now and will be showcased at the World Design Capital – Cape Town 2014.

Hennie’s take is that as the smoke signal was replaced by the mobile phone and the horse and carriage by the Model T, that the antiquated way of laying one brick on top of another simply is not conducive to producing quality affordable homes. Hence the title of his presentation “Move over Masonry”
